Birmingham and Blackpool find 39 points not enough - only three times has this been the case!
Birmingham and Blackpool both went down on 39 points, this has only happened in three seasons in the 16 seasons of 20 teams in the PL going back to 1995/96
West Ham United with 42 points in 2002/03 hold the record for most points be a relegated team
This is two more than the next two teams on the list who found 40 insufficient for survival, Bolton Wanderers in 1997/98 and Sunderland the season before
In the 2002/03 season West Ham were some 16 points clear of second bottom West Brom and in the end finished two points behind Bolton Wanderers and safety
Both West Ham and Bolton started the final day on 41 points but Wanderers goal difference was six better than The Hammers
Bolton were 2-1 home winners over Middlesbrough whilst West Ham were held to a 2-2 draw at St Andrews against Birmingham City
