Lionel Messi has the second best strike rate amongst the top goal scorers in the CL with a goal every 1.56 matches, only Ruud van Nistelrooy at a goal every 1.3 is ahead of him

Messi has 36 goals in 56 matches and van Nistelrooy 56 goals in 73 matches

He has scored once against United in 3 matches, his best strike rate is against the Gunners with six goals in four matches

United have kept clean sheets in eight of their 12 CL matches this season and in the four matches they did not they conceded just the one goal

The only time either side conceded more than one goal in a match was when Barca lost 2-1 at the Emirates

Cristiano Ronaldo netted four times as Real Madrid ran out 6-2 winners at Seville and in the process moved past Lionel Messi as top scorer in La Liga

Ronaldo started the day two goals behind Messi on 29 goals but by the end of the evening he had moved two clear on 33 goals

Messi will have his chance to respond on Sunday as Barcelona take on Espanyol in a local derby

Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets is the son of former Barcelona goalkeeper Carlos Busquetrs who played against United in the competition back in the 94/95 season in the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford and the 4-0 home win in the Group stages

He won five La Liga titles at Barcelona as well as Champions League and Cup Winners Cup winners medals

He is the current goalkeeper coach at Barcelona a position he took up last year

United and Barcelona have met seven times in the UCL with the draw dominating the fixture

Four of the seven matches between the two have ended all square

United have just one win, 1-0 at Old Trafford in the second leg of the 2008 Semi finbal after a 0-0 draw at the Nou Camp

Barcelona have two wins, one was the 2009 final in Rome where they were 2-0 winners

The other Barca win was back in the 94/95 season when they thrashed United 4-0 at the Nou Camp and in their defence that day was a certain Pep Guardiola
