How times change, Aston Villa under new manager Gerard Houlllier

Last season Aston Villa had the fewest starters in the PL with just 20 two few than next on the list Stoke City, under Martin O’Neill, how times can change under a new manager.

This season so fat they have used the most different starters with 25 under new manager Gerard Houlllier, one more than Man Utd, West Ham and Spur.

They have already used 10 players 21 or under which is twice as many as last season under O’Neil.

10 is the most of any PL side this season, two more than Liverpool whilst at the other end of the scale Stoke have used no players 21 or under

Dimitar Berbatov - Best Season at Old Trafford

Dimitar Berbatov has now had his best season for United and the season is not even half way through yet.

His double on Saturday against Sunderland took him to 13 for the season, one more than he scored last season for the Reds.

Remarkably his 13 goals have come in just 13 starts whilst his 12 last season came form 24 starts and he came on nine times whilst this season he has come on just once.

His best return in the PL was his second season at Spurs where he scored 15 goals in 33 starts and three more matches where he came on as a substitute

Kevin Nolan Hat Trick takes him to the top of the Charts

Newcastle United captain Kevin Nolan joined Florent Malouda and Carlos Tevez on seven goals with his hat trick against Sunderland on Sunday to go joint top of the leading goal scorers list.

Both Malouda and Nolan have six of their seven goals at home this season whilst Tevez has four at home and three away.

The leading goal scorer on the road though is Bolton’s Swedish striker Johan Elmander who has scored all five of his goals this season on the road and has yet to score at the Reebok this season.

Two Premier League Clubs heading for difficulties

Blackpool and Manchester City are the only two Premier League teams not to have scored a headed goal this season in the top flight and Blackpool have actually outscored the mega rich side from Eastlands 15 goals to 13.

Bizarrely City are one of two sides not to have conceded a headed goal along with this Saturday’s opponents West Brom.

At the other end of the scale Man United and Newcastle United lead the way with six each, one more than league leaders Chelsea 

Owen Cole settled at Bolton

In his first full season as Manager of Bolton Wanderers Owen Coyle has had just 15 different starts this season which is the lowest number in the PL this season.

Eight players have started all 10 matches to date and they are all outfielders with two goalkeepers been used with Jussi Jaaskelainen missing two matches after getting a red card against Birmingham City back in late August.

Matthew Taylor became the 15th starter when he started for the first time on Sunday against Liverpool having spent the first nine matches on the bench.  

West Brom v Man City Sun 7th Nov 15:00

  • At the Hawthorns West Brom have a 3-1 record over City and are looking to make it four in a row at home

Arsenal v Newcastle Sun 7th Nov 13:30

  • They last met in the 2008/09 season where Arsenal did the double over Newcastle with a 3-0 home win and 3-1 away win
  • The Gunners have a clear lead in the series between the two sides with 16 wins, Newcastle have eight and eight have been drawn
  • At home Arsenal have won 11 out of 16, two have ended all square and three times Newcastle have left with the point
  • In 16 home matches only one has ended 0-0 at the Gunner
  • Newcastle’s last win came back in December 2001 when the North East side ran out 3-1 winners

  • Blackpool stopped a two match losing run with their 2-1 win over West Brom on Monday night 
  • Everton have conceded just eight goals all season which is the second best defensive record after leaders Chelsea whilst
  • Blackpool have conceded the most in the PL with 21 Blackpool are the fifth highest scores in the PL this season with 15 some five more than Everton

  • These two sides have met eight times in the PL and West Ham lead the series with four wins, City have two and two have ended in draw
  • West Ham have a winning record at St Andrews with two wins, one defeat and one draw
