Blackburn v Man Utd 2nd April 2012

Blackburn Rovers v Manchester United

Premier League leaders Manchester United have the chance of moving five points clear of second placed Manchester City with a win at Ewood Park over 17th placed Blackburn Rovers

Rovers know a win will move them above Bolton and within two points of Aston Villa, whilst a defeat will see them move into the relegation zone on goal difference

Rovers have scored 43 goals this season which is the seventh most in the PL but some 31 fewer than United who are second one behind neighbours City

Defensively though Rovers have the second worst record with 62 goals conceded in 30 games and only Wolves with 68 have conceded more

United have the second meanest defensive record with 27 goals conceded only City with 25 have conceded fewer

At home this season Rovers have five wins and a draw to go with nine defeats, only Wolves with 11 have more home defeats

On the road United have easily the best record in the PL with 36 points out of a possible 45 with 11 wins and three draws and just one defeat, they have scored the most goal and got the best defensive record with 34 and 12 goals respectively

They have won four and drawn one on the road since they were humbled 3-0 at Newcastle back in the first week of January

Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez have both been first scorer three times on the road, whilst Hernandez has been last scorer five times

United have scored in 14 of their 15 away matches this season and kept seven clean sheets

Rovers have scored in 11 of their 15 home matches but worryingly have only managed one clean sheet, last time out in a 2-0 win against Sunderland

Their recent home form has been good with three wins and a draw in their last five with Newcastle the only side leaving with all three points in that period

Rovers have only managed to win six of the 12 matches where they have scored first, but have won the last five where they have scored first

United are unbeaten when scoring first with 23 wins and two draws in the 25 matches where they have opened the scoring, and have won the last 13 when they have scored first since drawing 1-1 at home to Newcastle

Wayne Rooney is United’s top scorer on the road with nine goals, one more than Javier Hernandez, but the Mexican International has scored 80% of his goals on the road

Yakubu has scored nine of his 14 goals at Ewood Park this season with only Mauro Formica, 3, and David Dunn, 2, scoring more than once at home

United have 15 headed goals this season which is the most in the PL whilst Rovers have conceded 14 headed goals this season with 14 some 10 more than United
